Is social media responsible for bringing about social change?
Celebrating the use of social media platforms for public affairs, the EuroPAwards is proud to present its Social Media award for the second annual European public affairs awards ceremony this year.
The real value in social media lies in its ability to give an insight into public opinion. It is a self-publishing communication format whereby individuals are not controlled in how they use the various platforms available. It allows for the creation of worldwide networks much greater than single communities, and has the power to bring individuals together on current affairs with immediacy.
Acting as a great way to mobilise people towards social change, social media has been seen to be responsible for facilitating viral campaigns such as the Ice Bucket Challenge, the fundraising awareness movement for those suffering with ALS. Another great example of social media being used to bring about social awareness was seen in the wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake when, as a result of twitter and Facebook support campaigns, $7 million was raised in 24 hours.
Not only this, government officials are much more aware of their constituents and their opinions, and make themselves increasingly visible and accessible by using social media. Evading content dumping, social media brings about the possibility for conversations between various parties by allowing for two-way communication.
This distinguished award will be presented to the consultancy team who demonstrate the best use of social media as part of an integrated campaign. We have made entering the awards both simple and affordable so if you feel you have a winning campaign, we welcome your contribution to become a part of one of Europe’s most prestigious public affairs events.
